This site hopes to provide a glimpse into our hops farm, local history of hops growing, some of our other projects, and some interesting local attractions.

In the hops photo area we have a pictorial history of the setup and growth of our hops yard, to show how we have done it, and the success and failures we have had on the way, hopefully to help anyone interested in growing hops for brewing.

We also have a section on historical hops farms in the Pemberton/Southwest region of Western Australia. Information  is limited, but what we have been able to find out is interesting, and credit is given to sources where possible.

Brew System design and fabrication is a passion and information is provided to help others build and design their own systems. Check back soon for updates to the photo section.

We have brewed up two new sections to the site, the projects zone, and the photo gallery. Please check them out and feel free to post any comments/feedback :] Both are still under construction.

New Project zone added! Projects around the home and farm from bikes to solar spa heaters and more

New Photo Galleries added! Check out the photo section for our other hobbies. These include motorbikes, generally from the 1970's to 1980's, vintage motorcycle literature, fishing, shed construction, organic vegetable gardening and of course photos of our hops farm and trellis setups.

Congratulations! to our friends Dan and Jodie for winning 1st place in the Bridgetown Show Brewing Competition. The prize winning all grain ale, was hand brewed using our Pride of Ringwood hops, and we feel privilaged to have been a part of their success. Well done guys :]

HopShed Hops Farm and local history

The Hopshed property started life as small, permaculture based family farm in the pristine environment of Peerabeelup, south west Western Australia.

Situated halfway between the Margaret River and Pemberton wine and tourism regions, it is an ideal climate for growing a variety of fresh produce.

We grow fresh organic fruit, veg and hops for our own use, surplus sometimes made available to those that can use.

The region surrounding Pemberton, Manjimup and Nannup were home to crops such as tobacco and hops, and have now diversified into many different areas such as tourism, wineries, boutique breweries, music festivals, sports events, truffles, avocados, olives, tulips and much more.

Hops were grown in the area through the mid 1900's. The largest farm, now Karri Valley Resort was owned by Arthur Bunn and family, was know firstly as Springfield, and then Waterfall Block.

The most striking feature of the farm still remaining is Lake Beedelup, which was constructed in 1962 to irrigate the hops farm, which produced 50,000kg of hops annually.
Some of the produce was sold to Swan Brewery and the rest went interstate. More info can be found on the historical pages.
